Selena
She was singer performer designer who broke through the barriers of the music industry. The dual nature of her role as a Mexican American star was both modern and traditional. She helped bring Tejano to mainstream fame in an innovative way. Like many times with a bright and friendly star is lost in a hurry, her untimely demise caused her to lose the popularity she had been gaining. People mourned the entire extent of her potential, which was untapped. Through the years, her people were inspired to work even harder to make sure that Selena's accomplishments would not go unnoticed. The tragic shooting death of Selena triggered a response in the Latino community that was similar with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was a hugely popular Latino performer across North America. Her music transcended the boundaries of culture and touched the hearts of both young people and older adults. Selena may have been hailed by some as the Latina Madonna, however she's still an excellent example to follow. Selena's family values off stage and involvement in AIDS awareness efforts provide a great example.
