Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent for NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively together with the President Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
